Gender is often obstructive to feeling completely free in one’s decisions and behaviour. There are always situations in which it matters whether you are female or male. Being a woman sometimes means being vulnerable, being in an inferior position, and there are situations in which women get confronted with their physical inferiority. The sculpture is led by these anxious feelings and perceptions and inspired by the female genital. I placed it high up on a wall so that people had to look up to it. Hereby, the sculpture becomes something powerful and sacred, but the location also creates a distance to the audience and emphasises the sculpture’s inaccessibility.
